How It Works 

1️⃣ Submit Your File

Upload your 3D file through our quote form or email it to info@layeredmidwest.com. We accept STL, 3MF, STEP, OBJ, Fusion, Blender, and most common 3D file formats. 

2️⃣ Get a Quote

We'll review your file within 24-48 hours and send you a detailed quote including material options, print time, and pricing. 

3️⃣ We Print It

Once approved, we'll queue your print and get to work! Most prints are completed within 3-7 business days, depending on size and complexity.

4️⃣ Receive Your Print

We'll carefully finish, inspect, and package your print. Choose local pickup in Arcola or fast shipping anywhere in the US.

Material Pricing 

PLA (Standard) 

  • $0.10 per kg of filament used
  • $0.50 per hour of print time
  • Best for: General use, prototypes, decorative items, beginners
  • Colors: 20+ standard colors available
  • Most economical option

PETG (Durable)

  • $0.13 per kg of filament used
  • $0.75 per hour of print time 
  • Best for: Functional parts, outdoor use, mechanical components, food-safe applications 
  • Colors: 10+ colors available 
  • Higher strength and temperature resistance 

TPU (Flexible)

  • $0.17 per kg of filament used 
  • $1.00 per hour of print time 
  • Best for: Flexible parts, gaskets, phone cases, wearables 
  • Colors: 5+ colors available 
  • Rubber-like flexibility 

Specialty Filaments

  • $0.15 per kg of filament used 
  • $1.25 per hour of print time

Standard Printer

  • Build volume: 256mm x 256mm x 256mm (10" x 10" x 10")
  • Standard pricing (no additional fees) 

Large Format Printer

  • Build volume: 350mm x 320mm x 325mm (13.8" x 12.6" x 12.8") 
  • An additional $0.25 per hour of print time 
  • Perfect for helmets, large displays, and big decorative items 

 

Pricing Examples

💡 Small item (keychain, phone stand):

  • Weight: 20-40kg PLA
  • Print time: 2-4 hours 
  • Cost: $3-6 (material) + $1-2 (time) = $4-8 total 

💡 Medium item (vase, organizer, small figurine):

  • Weight: 100-200kg PLA
  • Print time: 8-16 hours 
  • Cost: $10-20 (material) + $4-8 (time) = $14-28 total 

💡 Large item (helmet, large display, costume piece):

  •  Weight: 500-1000kg PLA
  • Print time: 30-60 hours
  • Cost: $50-100 (material) + $15-30 (time) = $65-130 total (+ large format fee if needed)

 File Preparation Tips:

  • Wall thickness: Minimum 1mm for strength
  • Overhangs: Try to keep under 45° (or we'll add supports) 
  • File size: Under 100MB preferred 
  • Units: Please specify mm, cm, or inches 
  • Manifold: Files must be "watertight" (no holes in mesh) 
  • Nozzle size: 0.2mm or 0.4mm available - specify if you have a preference

Q: Can you print my file if it's not optimized for 3D printing?

A: Absolutely! We'll review your file and let you know if any modifications are needed. We can make minor adjustments for free or recommend changes you can make, or we can make more complex adjustments for a fee.

Q: What if my print fails or has defects?

A: We reprint at no charge! Quality is guaranteed. If there's an issue with the print, we'll make it right. We will let you know if there is an issue with the file. For us to correct it, there may be a fee.

Q: Do you offer discounts for multiple copies?

A: Yes! The more you order, the lower the per-unit cost:

  • 1-24 units: Standard pricing
  • 25-49 units: 10% discount
  • 50-74 units: 15% discount
  • 75+ units: 20% discount 

Q: What colors do you have?

A: We stock 20+ colors in PLA and 10+ in PETG.

Popular colors include:

  • Standard: Black, White, Gray, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Pink
  • Specialty: Metallic (gold, silver, copper, bronze), Glow-in-the-dark, Dual/tri-color, Color-changing, Carbon fiber, Glitter

Although we keep a wide variety of colors in stock, anything other than basic colors (black, white, gray, red, blue, green, yellow) may be out of stock, but can be purchased for your project. This will add 2-5 days to the expected print time. 

Q: Can you paint or finish my print?

A: We provide basic support removal and cleanup. We do not offer premium finishing services like sanding, painting, or coating at this time.

Q: Do you keep my files confidential?

A: Absolutely. Your files are kept secure and confidential. We can sign an NDA if required.

Q: What if I don't know what material to choose?

A: We'll help! Just tell us what you're using it for, and we'll recommend the best material for your application.

Q: Can you print multiple files in one order?

A: Yes! Submit all files, then we'll provide a combined quote.
